October 13, 2012 -- Baltimore Half-Marathon

On October 13th, Team Q's Quest ran in the Baltimore Running Festival. We raised OVER $70,000 for our mission to bring an end to brain cancer over the last four months. It was truly incredible.

We ran this race in memory of those who we lost from brain cancer and in hope of finding a cure. Our team consisted of 10 patients, over 10 students, lab members, colleague, and those running in memory of someone they have lost.

The race was an amazing race!

WBAL interviewed myself and John Petrovick's mother, Buffy.

You can view the interview here.

I ran the half-marathon in 1:45:28, a personal best, and I believe that John was by my side throughout the run.

Teddy Miller, one of my patients who is a recent brain tumor survivor and also an active member of Team Q's Quest, placed 12th in the half-marathon! Teddy was also a top fundraiser, raising $4,925 for the cause. Congratulations, Teddy!

Issac Pacheco, a man who was so inspired by our cause that he came up from Georgia to run, placed 3rd overall. Amazing, Issac!

I would also like to congratulate our top fundraiser, Gina Guaragna. Gina raised $5,207 for the cause.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the next race!

Please save-the-date for next year's event on Saturday, October 13, 2012. I hope you join me by running the half-marathon in honor of my patients and everyone else who is suffering from a brain tumor.

October 15, 2011 -- Baltimore Marathon

Message from Dr. Q:

Dear Colleagues, Friends, and Family
Words cannot properly express my most sincere gratitude for your support and all your wonderful work over the past few months leading to the marathon this weekend. The run we did this weekend is a symbol of strength, unity, and hope. I finished in 2h6mins and I am happy but I am the MOST proud to see that John did it in much less time! Nothing gives me more pride than to see him move with such grace during the race. I know that he represented all of us and our patients—thank you John!!
Alicia, thank you for your support and encouragement as we started the race—like John, you are a source of inspiration and pride to all of us. Thank you to Elizabeth, Colleen, Caroline Petrovick (the Petrovick family was there and did a beautiful job supporting us and the shirts/designs are just wonderful!) , and all the people that made this event possible. All the participants from the 5k, to the relay, to the half marathon.
This is just the beginning!

Team: Dr Q, Nathaniel Tippens, Hugo Guerrero-Cazares, Christopher Smith, Linda Chen, Elizabeth Wu, Olindi Wijesekera, Thomas O'Donnel, Vanessa Valdivia
