Glucose-6–phosphatase Is a Key Metabolic Regulator of Glioblastoma Invasion

It is a great honor to announce that our team’s research has been featured on the cover of Molecular Cancer Research, a highly respected science journal that publishes on new insights into the molecular basis of cancer and its progression. In this feature Sara Abbadi et al. have established that glucose-6–phosphatase (G6PC/G6Pase) expression is elevated in glioblastoma (GBM) when compared with normal brain. G6PC inhibits the glycolytic inhibition that would typically mitigate the metabolic reprogramming characteristic of GBM cell proliferation and survival. Accordingly, this research establishes G6PC as a key enzyme with promalignant functional consequences that has not been previously reported in GBM and identifies G6PC as a potential therapeutic target.
